Our roots
From log to living with over 75 years of experience.
Our story began over 75 years ago when business advisor Osmo Ruotsalainen founded the company in 1946 at Rantasalmi.
We honor our heritage while firmly looking towards the future, offering comprehensive solutions for both domestic and international clients.
History
Quiet strength and pristine beauty of Finnish timber - since 1946.
Nestled deep in the Finnish forests, we draw our inspiration and the very foundation of our work from the land itself.
Our story began over 75 years ago when Osmo Ruotsalainen founded Rantasalmi Ltd. in 1946 in the town of Rantasalmi. The company’s journey began with sawing timber, but their vision and courage quickly led Rantasalmi to become a pioneer in Finland's log house industry.
In 1956, the first factory-made summer cottage was built, and that same year, Rantasalmi participated in the Helsinki Fair, resulting in 27 new cottage orders. Two years later, in 1958, Rantasalmi gained international attention when architect Reima Pietilä's log sauna was showcased at the Brussels World Expo. This moment marked the beginning of Finnish log construction exports and opened doors to the world. In the 1960s, Rantasalmi continued to grow, participating in the Chicago and London fairs, where Finnish craftsmanship received the recognition it deserved.
In the 1970s, production expanded to include larger cottages and log houses. Architects Heikki and Kaija Siren designed unique models for the company, adding depth and beauty to Rantasalmi's vision of modern log construction. This legacy lives on, continuing to inspire us to this day.
Today
Rantasalmi, a place where the traditions of log construction run deep, is still our home.
Our company’s headquarters and production facility remain in the very location where it all began – in the heart of Eastern Finland, in Rantasalmi.
As with life itself, change is an inevitable part of time. Rantasalmi has experienced ownership transitions and business restructurings, yet our unwavering commitment to high-quality log construction and customer-focused service remains. Today, Rantasalmi Log Houses is a proud part of the Finn-Bois MTR company. We craft unique, high-quality log houses with a big Eastern Finnish heart and unwavering expertise.
