A log home where the landscape and materials are in dialogue

When the idea of having our own log home began to take shape, the decisive push came from an unexpected source: a recommendation from a colleague. Rantasalmi impressed us with their expertise and flexibility—and from that grew a home where the exterior blends seamlessly with the forest and the interior is bathed in light.
The starting point for designing the home was clear: functionality, light, and making full use of the plot and its orientations. The location was far from easy—slopes and exposed rock—but it was seen as an opportunity, not an obstacle. Rantasalmi embraced the challenge.

A dream log home, nestled in nature

When the Kotiranta family decided to build their dream home in the beautiful lakeside scenery of Loikansaari in Savonlinna, Finland, they knew immediately that a log house was the only right choice. The family had previously built a log cottage on the same property, and now it was time to create a modern, nature-inspired home alongside it—one that would blend the stunning surroundings with everyday functionality. For the family, it was essential that the common areas of the house be spacious and filled with natural light. Large windows and glass surfaces that seamlessly connect the interior with nature were a key priority for them.

A modern log cabon – light-filled, lasting, and made for living

A villa, a cottage, a summer home – a beloved place has many names. For some, it is a quiet hideaway; for others, a family base or a sanctuary that grows into a home over the years, nestled in nature. A modern log cottage is no longer a dim, low-ceilinged cabin. Today, it is fully contemporary: healthy, breathable, ecological, and aesthetically timeless. It can be built exactly as your lifestyle requires—whether as a simple getaway or a fully functional home that weathers the changing seasons and stands the test of time.
